The greatest of all Irish saints, after St Patrick. She wa the daughter of Dubtach, a nobleman of Leinster. The fame of her holiness, her hospitality and her charity, especially towards poor slaves and captives, her miracles and prophetic powers extended to Scotland. She died about the year 525, at the age of seventy, was buried at Kildare, but was afterwards translated to Downpatrick, where her body lies, beside those of SS Patrick and Columba.
